List Of Countries That Are COVID-Free

It all started as a mysterious virus in Wuhan, China, and then, in just a matter of months, it has become a global pandemic. Since then, there have been at least 188 countries affected; however, some countries are COVID-free, and not even a single case has been reported.

More than 8.3 million people have been infected by COVID-19, according to the data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. More than 4 million patients have recovered, but more than 448,000 represent the global death toll. This has led the governments to impose physical distancing and lockdowns to contain the spread of the virus. While many countries are still struggling to flatten the curve, 12 countries now have zero cases of coronavirus. Here is a list of the countries that are COVID-free.

Kiribati

There are no cases in Kiribati, but their government has declared a state of public emergency. Schools were closed on March 30th for two weeks.

Marshall Islands

On March 21st, the Marshall Islands’ only international flight connection temporarily ceased its service for at least three weeks.

Micronesia

In early February, Micronesia was quick to implement travel bans, including travel bans for those traveling from China and Chinese citizens.

Nauru

Nauru, a small country you can walk around in just a day, has managed to stay COVID-free. The country holds the record for being one of the least-visited countries in the world.

North Korea

The first country to close its borders is North Korea. The country closed its borders on January 21th and hasn’t re-opened since. Despite being the nearest neighbor of China, North Korea authorities report zero cases.

Palau

Although there’s one person who’s under investigation for having COVID after having traveled from Guam, Palau is still currently no coronavirus infections.

Samoa

One of the least-visited countries in the world is the Solomon Islands, which you can access easily from close neighboring countries with direct flights. Since early February, the Solomon Islands have required a medical certificate to allow entry. Travelers who would enter Samoa from infected countries are required 14-day quarantine.

Tonga

Since February, Tonga has been strict with its travel rules. Since the first reported case of coronavirus in Fiji, Tonga closed its borders and only allowed foreigners to leave who were traveling back to their own countries.

Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan is a Central Asian country with neighboring borders like Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. Most of its borders were closed for more than a month ago. The country canceled many flights, especially all flights from and to China in early February.

Tuvalu

Tuvalu is known as one of the least visited countries in the world. The country only sees fewer than 200 tourists every year. This might have been the main reason how Tuvalu was able to prevent an outbreak in this country with just a very small population.

Vanuatu

The last country on our list of countries that are COVID-free is Vanuatu. There have been no reported cases; the country has still implemented strict policies for those coming in from overseas since February. Those who are traveling from infected countries were not permitted or had to undergo quarantine. Those who are arriving in the country were required to provide a medical certificate.
